THE TRIDUUM ends on Easter Sunday evening, at sunset, and the Easter season begins. The Easter season lasts seven weeks, ending on the evening [sunset] of Pentecost Sunday. The Easter season is a season full of life. This is the perfect time of the year to celebrate life—a life that lasts forever. Thus, this is a 50-day festival. The Paschal Candle, lit from the Easter fire at the beginning of the Easter Vigil remains burning brightly throughout these days. We are invited to catch the spirit of new life and let it remind you of the Holy Spirit within you. Taking part in these 50-days will help keep the spirit of these days alive, enjoy the good news, and let the meaning sink in.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper [HOLY THURSDAY], the celebration of the Lord’s Passion [GOOD FRIDAY], and the celebration of the resurrection at the Easter Vigil [Holy Saturday]. “The Lord is truly risen, alleluia. To him be glory and power for all ages of eternity, alleluia, alleluia.” [Lk 24:34; cf. Rev 1:6]
We are within DAY TWO of the TRIDUUM. We have celebrated DAY ONE—the Lord’s Supper [Thursday evening] and the death of Christ on a cross [Good Friday]. DAY TWO [sundown Good Friday until sundown Holy Saturday] hosts no celebrations. This is the only day of the entire year no sacramental celebrations [especially the Eucharist] are celebrated. The sanctuary light is dark. The tabernacle is empty. Only the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and Viaticum may be celebrated. All is quiet as we mourn the death of Christ and await the beginning of DAY THREE of the TRIDUUM when we will begin to celebrate Christ’s resurrection with the celebration of the Easter Vigil.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the celebration the Lord's Last Supper and/or stayed to pray last evening. Please join us today as DAY ONE OF the TRIDUUM [three holiest days of the year] continues: FRIDAY—APRIL 19 Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord 1:00 p.m. Service – Arcadia AND Glidden SATURDAY—APRIL 20 Holy Saturday 9:00 p.m. Eucharist – Halbur AND Glidden SUNDAY—APRIL 21 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord 8:00 a.m. Eucharist – Mount Carmel AND Templeton 10:00 a.m. Eucharist – Breda AND Arcadia
The TRIDUUM [three holiest days of the year] begins this evening at sundown. This liturgy includes washing of the feet of volunteers by the priest to recall Jesus mandate to us to serve others as He did; the presentation of the Holy Oils blessed and consecrated by the bishop at the Chrism Mass, and the procession of the Holy Eucharist [Blessed Sacrament] to a side chapel to recall Jesus’ procession from the Upper Room to the Garden of Gethsemane as we are invited to pray with Him, and the stripping of the Altar as we prepare to the celebration of Christ’s Passion. Please join us for the celebrations: THURSDAY—APRIL 18 Holy Thursday 7:00 p.m. Eucharist – Breda AND Templeton 8:00 p.m. Adoration – Breda AND Templeton 10:00 p.m. Night Prayer – Breda FRIDAY—APRIL 19 Good Friday of the Passion of the Lord 1:00 p.m.
We are in need of volunteers to have their right foot washed after the Homily and the Holy Thursday Masses at Sacred Heart and St. Bernard. Please invite persons to participate in this great ritual of the Holy Thursday Mass and to come forward when Fr. Steve [at Templeton] and I [at Breda] invite people to participate. Thank you. Fr. Mark
